The largest city in Rhode Island, Providence is known for having the most coffee/doughnut shops per capita in the United States. Travelers, especially, find their distinction of also having the most restaurants per capita a great point, especially when it is found in one of the city's many ethnic neighborhoods.Providence isn't just known for its food though. The city is alive with culture, art, and festivals year around. Theater-goers enjoy the works of the Trinity Repertory Company, a Tony Award-winning theater group, as well as the Providence Black Repertory Company. The city is also home to three performing arts centers, multiple museums, a zoo, planetarium, botanical center, and world-class parks.
Shoppers can visit the Westminster Arcade, the country's oldest enclosed shopping mall. History buffs will enjoy strolling the areas on the East side, which is home to many pre-Revolutionary War structures. Roller derby fans travel to Providence regularly to take in the sport. The city has four official teams in its league, which was formed in 2004.
